Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has departed for a three-day official visit to Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, where he will represent Pakistan at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit.
During the summit, the prime minister is expected to present Pakistan’s position on key regional and global issues. He will also hold bilateral meetings with leaders and senior representatives from participating countries.
Shehbaz Sharif will additionally attend the SCO Plus Summit and participate as the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games.
Federal Ministers Jam Kamal Khan, Abdul Aleem Khan and Attaullah Tarar are accompanying the prime minister during the visit.
The prime minister is also scheduled to meet Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, with discussions expected to cover the overall scope of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan.
The two sides are expected to discuss opportunities for greater cooperation in trade, investment, energy, regional connectivity, education and tourism.
The SCO gathering is also notable as the prime ministers of Pakistan and India are expected to be in Bishkek at the same time. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with the leaders of Russia, China and Iran, is also expected to attend the summit.
