Islamabad:<\/strong> The prices of petroleum products in Pakistan have continued to rise, with petrol and diesel becoming significantly more expensive over the past one and a half months. In just the last four days, the price of petrol has increased by nearly Rs25 per litre, while diesel has gone up by Rs20 per litre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since July 21, the price of petrol has increased from Rs315.80 per litre to Rs370.80 per litre. This means petrol has become Rs55 per litre more expensive during the last one and a half months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The price of diesel has also witnessed a significant increase during the same period. Diesel was priced at Rs360 per litre on July 21, while its current price has reached Rs398.04 per litre, showing an overall increase of around Rs38 per litre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest increase has been particularly sharp. During the last four days alone, petrol became Rs24.93 per litre more expensive, while the price of diesel increased by Rs20 per litre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The continuous rise in petroleum prices is also expected to affect transportation and other daily expenses. Higher fuel prices can increase transportation costs and may also put additional pressure on the prices of essential goods and other services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Along with the increase in petroleum prices, the government has also raised the petroleum levy on diesel. During the last one and a half months, the levy on diesel increased by Rs14 per litre, rising from Rs66 to Rs80 per litre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to available documents, the petroleum levy currently accounts for around 24 percent of the price of petrol and approximately 25 percent of the price of diesel. The government collects a significant amount of revenue through the petroleum levy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to official figures, the government collected Rs1,567 billion through the petroleum levy during the fiscal year 2025-26. This was Rs99 billion higher than the collection target of Rs1,468 billion set for the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the current fiscal year, the government has set a target of collecting Rs1,676 billion through the petroleum levy. In addition, the government has set a target of collecting more than Rs100 billion through the carbon levy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the fiscal year 2024-25, the government collected Rs1,220 billion through the petroleum levy. Between March and June 2024, the government generated Rs300 billion in revenue through the petroleum levy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The continued increase in petrol and diesel prices has raised concerns among consumers, as higher fuel costs can have a direct impact on transportation expenses and the prices of various goods and services across the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
