Islamabad:<\/strong> The opposition has welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s response regarding the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), and has decided to re-engage with the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Mahmood Achakzai has decided to seek further consultation with the prime minister. According to sources, the opposition is expected to request a formal consultation process with the government over the appointments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Achakzai held a meeting with PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, which was also attended by Raja Nasir Abbas. During the meeting, Achakzai briefed the opposition leaders about the prime minister’s letter and discussed the government’s response regarding the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and ECP members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The leaders also discussed preparations for the PTI’s planned September 27 protest and march. They agreed to contact other political parties before convening an All Parties Conference. The proposed conference is aimed at developing a joint strategy to address the country’s political issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A meeting of the Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Aain-e-Pakistan has also been scheduled for September 15. The meeting will review progress on preparations for the proposed All Parties Conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Speaking to the media at Parliament House, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said that there are contacts between the PTI and the government, but no formal negotiations or back-channel talks are currently taking place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He said the door to dialogue remains open and political issues can only be resolved through negotiations. However, Gohar made it clear that the PTI would not move forward with negotiations without the approval of party founder Imran Khan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to Gohar, Imran Khan will decide when and where negotiations take place, who participates and what conditions will apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He said the PTI has always supported dialogue and had previously formed committees for negotiations. However, he claimed that the government had not shown seriousness in previous attempts and that the party’s calls for dialogue were wrongly interpreted as a sign of weakness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Gohar said political issues should be resolved through talks as soon as possible. If negotiations take place, he said, they must be conducted seriously and sincerely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Gohar said the government had not made any offer to stop the PTI’s planned September 27 “Insaf March”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He invited people to participate in the march, saying it was not a matter of personal preference or a hobby but a march for justice. He also assured that the protest would not result in chaos or disorder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Gohar once again said the PTI would not take any major political step without Imran Khan’s approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Responding to questions about the prime minister’s letter, Gohar said the government had finally provided its response. He also confirmed that the PTI remains in contact with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, although he declined to reveal details of those communications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Gohar said the PTI had never denied having contact with the government. He reiterated that dialogue remains part of Imran Khan’s political policy and that the party founder will decide the timing, venue, participants and conditions of any future negotiations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The latest developments come as opposition parties consider broader political consultations through a proposed All Parties Conference, while the PTI continues preparations for its September 27
