China has opposed the new sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran, urging all relevant parties to resolve their differences through political and diplomatic channels.
A spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said sanctions that have not been authorized by the UN Security Council have no basis under international law. China called on the parties concerned to act responsibly and seek a solution through dialogue and diplomacy.
The United States has recently increased economic pressure on Iran by imposing new sanctions. According to the US Treasury Department, the measures target Iran’s alleged shadow banking network, which facilitates the transfer and repatriation of funds generated through oil and other exports.
The sanctions target front companies linked to Iranian banks, exchange houses and financial facilitators allegedly involved in the network.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington would impose some of the toughest sanctions in its history against Tehran. He also warned that countries insisting on continuing business with Iran could face action.
China has maintained that the situation should be addressed through political and diplomatic means rather than further escalation, calling on all relevant parties to demonstrate responsibility.
